About Image Converter

Convert images between JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF, ICO and SVG, or turn them into a PDF. Choose the output format for each file or all at once, set the quality, and optionally resize to a new width while converting. Batch convert up to 20 images.

Which image format should you choose?

  • JPG for photos you want to share, email or upload. It opens everywhere and keeps files small.
  • PNG for screenshots, logos, graphics and anything with text or a transparent background. Edges stay perfectly sharp.
  • WEBP for websites. It is usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and works in all modern browsers.
  • AVIF is newer and even smaller than WEBP, but not every program can open it yet.
  • ICO for website favicons, BMP and TIFF for older programs and printing workflows, GIF for simple animations, and PDF to turn an image into a document.

Quality and size options

The Quality slider applies to JPG, WEBP and AVIF. The default of 90 keeps photos looking like the original; 75 to 85 gives smaller files that still look clean on screen. PNG is always lossless, so the slider does not change it.

To make pictures smaller in size as well as format, enter a width in pixels, for example 1200 for a website or 800 for email. The height changes to match, so the image never looks stretched.

Good to know

  • Transparent backgrounds are kept when you convert to PNG, WEBP or AVIF. JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white.
  • Converting does not add detail. Turning a small, blurry JPG into PNG makes a bigger file, not a sharper picture.
  • Many images at once: add up to 20 files, choose one output format, and download them all as a ZIP.
  • Just need smaller files in the same format? Use Image Compressor. Need a specific size? Use Resize Image. iPhone photos? HEIC to JPG is made for them.

Frequently asked questions

Which image format should I use?

Use JPG for photos, PNG for screenshots, logos and images with transparency, and WEBP for small, fast-loading web images.

Can I resize while converting?

Yes. Enter a width in Options and the height is adjusted automatically to keep the proportions.

Is transparency kept?

It's kept in formats that support it, like PNG, WEBP and GIF. JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas become white.

What is the best format for photos?

JPG for sharing and compatibility, WEBP if the photos are for a website. Both keep files small. Use PNG only when you need sharp text, graphics or a transparent background.

Can I convert PNG to JPG without a white background?

No, because JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep the transparency, convert to WEBP or keep the PNG.
