About PDF to Black and White
Turn a color PDF into grayscale or pure black and white before you print, save ink, or send it to a form that only accepts black-and-white documents. Grayscale keeps every shade and the text stays sharp and selectable. Pure black and white uses only black and white dots, like a photocopy, which is ideal for laser printers, fax and scanned forms. The page size and layout stay exactly the same.
Frequently asked questions
Which style should I choose?
Choose Grayscale for most documents: pictures keep their shading and the text stays sharp. Choose Pure black & white when you need a true 1-color document, for example to print on a black-and-white laser printer or to submit a form that must not contain gray.
Will it save printer ink?
Yes. Printing in grayscale or black and white uses only black ink or toner, so your colored ink cartridges are not used at all.
Can I still select and copy the text afterwards?
With Grayscale, yes: the text stays real text. Pure black & white turns each page into a black-and-white image, so the text can no longer be selected.
My PDF has a password. Can I still convert it?
Yes. Type the password in Options. It is only used to open the file for this conversion and is never saved.
