About MP4 to MP3
Turn any MP4 video into an MP3 audio file — handy for saving a song, podcast, lecture or voice memo so you can play it on any phone, car stereo or music app. Upload your video, pick a bitrate (192 kbps is a good default, 320 kbps for the best quality) and download the MP3. You can convert up to 20 videos at once.
Which MP3 bitrate should you choose?
The bitrate decides how much audio detail is kept in each second of sound, and therefore how big the MP3 is. Under Options you can choose from 64 to 320 kbps:
- 192 kbps (default) sounds like the original to most listeners on headphones, car speakers and phones. About 1.4 MB per minute.
- 256 or 320 kbps for music you care about, or if the video had very good sound to begin with. 320 kbps is about 2.4 MB per minute.
- 96 or 128 kbps for speech: lectures, podcasts, meetings and voice notes. Voices stay clear and files are much smaller.
- 64 kbps for the smallest files, for example long recordings you only need to listen to once.
A higher bitrate cannot add quality that was not in the video. If the MP4 has a 128 kbps soundtrack, choosing 320 kbps only makes the file bigger.
Sample rate: leave it on "Keep original"
The sample rate is how many times per second the sound is measured. Most videos use 44.1 or 48 kHz, and keeping the original is the right choice almost every time. Choose 22.05 kHz only for speech recordings where you want the smallest possible file.
Tips for better MP3 files
- Only need part of the video? Cut it first with Trim Video, then convert. You get a shorter MP3 and a faster conversion.
- Not an MP4? Use Video to MP3 for MOV, MKV, AVI, WEBM and other videos.
- Need a different audio format? Audio Converter can save the soundtrack as WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC and more.
- Only convert videos you have the right to use, such as your own recordings, lectures you are allowed to keep, or files shared with permission.
Frequently asked questions
Will the audio quality be good?
The audio is re-encoded from your video's soundtrack at the bitrate you choose. 192 kbps sounds close to the original for most people; choose 320 kbps if quality matters most, or 128 kbps for smaller files.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 1 GB for free, and up to 5 GB on paid plans. For very long videos, trim the part you need first with our Trim Video tool to save time.
What happens to my files?
Your upload is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes, and the MP3 is automatically deleted from our server after 8 hours.
Will the MP3 play on my phone and in my car?
Yes. MP3 is the most widely supported audio format. It plays on iPhone and Android, Windows and Mac, car stereos, smart speakers and almost every music app.
Can I convert several videos at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 MP4 files in one go. Each becomes its own MP3, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
