About HEIC to JPG

iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC, which many Windows PCs, websites and older apps can't open. Convert HEIC to JPG here to share, upload or edit your photos anywhere. Drop in one photo or a whole batch, set the quality, and download JPGs that work on every device.

What is a HEIC file, and why convert it?

HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps good quality in about half the space of a JPG, which is why Apple chose it. The catch is that many places still do not open it: older Windows PCs, some Android phones, many web upload forms, online shops, government portals and photo printing services. Converting to JPG makes your photos open everywhere, at the cost of a slightly bigger file.

Choosing the right quality

  • 90 (default) keeps the photo looking the same as the original. Best for printing, sharing with family and keeping copies.
  • 75 to 85 gives noticeably smaller files that still look great on phones and laptops, ideal for email and upload forms.
  • 100 keeps every bit of detail, but files get much bigger and you will rarely see a difference.

Need smaller pictures as well? Enter a width under Options, for example 1600 pixels for email or 1200 for websites. iPhone photos are usually 4,032 pixels wide, so this alone can make each file several times smaller.

Converting many iPhone photos at once

  • On iPhone: tap Choose Files, then Photo Library, and select up to 20 photos. Some iPhones convert to JPG automatically when uploading; if the list already shows JPG, the photos are ready to use as they are.
  • On Windows or Mac: drag the HEIC files you copied from your phone onto this page.
  • Download the results one by one, or all together as a ZIP file.
  • Want transparency or no quality loss at all? Use HEIC to PNG. Putting several photos into one document? Use JPG to PDF, which also accepts HEIC.

Tip: to stop your iPhone saving new photos as HEIC, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open HEIC photos?

HEIC is Apple's space-saving photo format. It isn't supported everywhere, especially on Windows and on many upload forms, so converting to JPG is the easiest fix.

Will my photos lose quality?

At the default quality of 90 the difference is very hard to see. Raise it to 100 for maximum quality, or lower it to make files smaller.

Can I convert many photos at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 photos in one go, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

Very slightly, because JPG uses a different kind of compression. At the default quality of 90 you will not see a difference on screen or in normal prints.

Are my photo dates and location kept?

The photo itself is converted with its correct orientation. If privacy matters, be aware that location data in photos can reveal where they were taken; our Image Compressor removes it before you share pictures online.
